Jay Crawford (USCG Masters License, sailing/towing endorsements) has been living, breathing and coaching kiteboarding on Hatteras Island since the early days. Flying Naish product since 1999, Jay has worked with and learned from the pioneers. He has worked with many schools on the island to fine tune his teaching/riding skills.
To ruther sharpen his teaching abilities, Jay spends the winter months teaching skiing/snowboarding at Heavenly Mountain Resort. Holding a full cert in skiing, level one in snowboarding, and level one avalanche cerfications. Most days are spent coaching "private lessons" or staff training. Jay also helps and contribues to all of the current kiteboarding magazines: SBC, The Kiteboarder, and Kiteboarding... With a degree from Wintrhop College in Physical Education - Leisure Services (1989), what better way to live the dream on the Outer Banks!
Karen Crawford has also been involved since "the beginning" of kiting
on Hatteras Island as well. Living on the island for over 30 years! She
brings with her countless hours on the water! Moving to the island specifically
for surfing, she soon picked up the sport of windsurfing/wave sailing and
competed for many years. She also spent a lot of winter months in
Puerto Rico to expand her surf/wave skills and knowledge...
She too rips around Heavenly on a snowboard during some of the winter!!!
